The Ripstik Caster Board is designed to travel in only one direction and has two sections which are clearly the “nose” and the “tail”. The two sections pivot horizontally and it is this ingenious pivoting which makes them so simple to use. Once you have learned to balance you drive the Ripstik Caster Board forward by moving your feet and body to alter the position of your centre of gravity. This is the same type of action which a child uses in order to drive a swing forward and backwards when there is nobody there to push.

Steering is also achieved with the position of the feet. Point the lead toe down, with the other toe up, and you will turn forwards. Point the lead toe up and the other toe down and you will turn backwards. Gaining speed is a skill which is quickly learned with practice.

Having only two casters, the Ripstik Caster Board cannot move on its own. It simply lies on its side. Using one foot, you move the board until it is horizontal. You then push off with the other foot and you are immediately moving. Rocking your feet carries you forward and you can travel on a flat surface, climb inclines and then coast down the other side.
